Mapping of the noise level in urban areas by GIS requires numerical maps as well asrnthe related attribute data. Especially for regional noise mapping, the meteorological data should be arnvery important parameter because of its effect on noise propagation. There are several kinds of thernmeteorological data; the meteorological observatories have been monitoring the weather conditions,rnand the records of the observations for every hour are commercially supplied together with their globalrnpositions. In addition, local governments carry out meteorological observation with a primary purposernof monitoring the atmospheric pollution. With primary objective to incorporate meteorological data inrnnoise mapping, we have analyzed some of the meteorological observation data in Japan. Werndeveloped a sound management and prediction system using GIS, which has functions of loading thernmeteorological data by the meteorological observatories and the local governments directly from thernelectronic media, of calculating the average values of the wind speed, atmospheric temperature, etc. inrnthe period in question, and of drawing the contour lines of these meteorological parameters. In thisrnpaper, the authors present the system outline and show some typical contours of the meteorologicalrnparameters in a local government area in Japan and discuss the influence of seasonal meteorology inrnnoise mapping within selected area of 1km by 1km.
