As is known in the legal regulations for protection against noise in different European countries the sound insulation of partitions between dwellings is expressed in variousrndescriptors. For airborne sound there are applied R'w, DnT,w, R'A, DnAT, DnT,w+Ctr. For impact sound there are L'n,w, L'nT,w, L'n,w + CI. So the partitions with the same acoustics performance can be described by different values depending on the applied descriptor. The main objective of this paper is to show relations between various descriptors based on the in deep investigation of lightweight and masonry partitions in situ. Obtained results were used to justify a preferred descriptor for representing in situ measured sound insulation properties in dwellings. That allows to specify comparable evaluations between legal regulations for airborne and impact sound insulation in 18 European countries.
