The drainage of coastal floodplain sulfidic sediments for agricultural activities worldwide has caused the pollution of adjacent aquatic systems impacting upon the health of marine organisms.The speciation of metals can impact upon hydrolysis reactions,of which Al and Fe are of most concem,resulting in severe acidification as well as the bioavailability/toxicity of other elements.Despite this importance,knowledge on metal speciation in coastal lowland acid sulfate soil drainage waters is largely unknown.
