The thermal decompositions of calcium o-phthalate trihydrate, calcium dihydrogen di(m-phthalate) trihydrate, calcium dihydrogen di(p-phthalate) trihydrate, strontium dihydrogen di(o-phthalate) dihydrate, strontium dihydrogen di(m-phthalate) tetrahydrate, and strontium p-phthalate trihydrate have been investigated from ambient temperature to 950 K in air using derivatography, DSC, IR spectroscopy, and XRD. Intermediates were crystalline and have been characterized. The kinetic parameters were determined for the dehydration step isothermally, and the results were analyzed for kinetic models. The order of stability of the various isomers was investigated and explained.
