Slow molecular rearrangements having a basic influence on the kinetics of network formation in thermoseting systems. The slowing down of molecular relaxation processes during the isothermal curing of an epoxy thermoset was studied using temperature modulated differential scanning calorimetry and modelled in the framework of linear response using a time dependent relaxation function. Starting from an equilibrium description of the time dependent complex heat capacity the influence glassy frozen of non-equilibrium structures was incorporated in to the model for description of structural frustrations during reaction. The concept was applied successfully for modelling the experimental results.
