Micro-thermal analysis for the characterization of pharmaceutical materials

The use of micro-thermal analysis as a novel means of characterising compacted pharmaceutical materials is described, using ibuprofen compacts as model systems. The surface topography, thermal image, heat flow on temperature scanning and temperature-dependent z-axis probe deflection are described, with the implications for the characterisation of pharmaceutical materials outlined.
