The wear of a single-crystal diamond tool after machining electroless nickel of 3.18 km in distance was inspected with the LSP and SPM. The fine grooves on the frank face and on the machined electroless nickel surface were observed clearly. Intervals for these grooves were 2 urn which was the same value of the feed rate. When the diamond tool attached on the workpiece, the impact gave raise to tool defect, and the step difference of the defect was 4.1 urn. The worn length on the rake face could be estimated by measuring the frank angle and the groove length, and it was 1.7 urn. The groove depth of the diamond tool was measured as 42.94 nm PV.
