For vertical-axis applications, an added load shifts the average axis line lower and unbalance causes a centering error (or can correct it). Compliance of the spindle bearings lowers the rotor but the axis of rotation maintains its orbit about the axis average line. A radial force tilts the workpiece but not the axis of rotation.
