Clear understanding of the collapse behaviour of container ship havingrnlarge hatch openings under pure bending and pure torsion as well asrncombined bending and torsion is very important to ensure the safety ofrncontainer ships which are now widely used all over the world. In thernpresent paper, a series of progressive collapse analyses is performed onrn1/13-scale container ship models under pure bending, pure torsion andrncombined bending and torsion applying Idealized Structural UnitrnMethod (ISUM) developed by the authors. The calculated loaddisplacementrnrelationships are compared with the experimental resultsrnas well as calculated results applying nonlinear FEM. Similar collapsernbehaviour was observed between calculated and measured results. Thus,rnapplicability of the developed ISUM element and the accuracy of therncalculated results are demonstrated.
