This paper shows friction factors of high-viscosity oil flow in pipes. The pipe pressure drop from entrance to exit of the pipe was measured, and the friction factor was obtained. Friction factors of high-viscosity oil flow in pipes are very large. To reduce the pressure drop, the pipe friction factor of oil-water mixture flow in transporting the oil by insertion in a water current was investigated. Using the pipe friction factor obtained by the experiment, the oil flow rate in a pipe is calculated. The oil flow rate of the oil injected in a water is compared with the cases of oil only flow and an annular water injection method (AWI). The method of transporting viscous oil by injecting it in a water current is simple and convenient and the friction coefficient of the pipe can thus be reduced.
