The current study was implemented to evaluate the channel slopernstability of the East Route of the South-North Water Diversion Project,rnChina. Typical channel crossing section in Sandong Province wasrnevaluated by using the finite element based strength reduction method.rnThe calculation code was developed based on BCF, which wasrnprogrammed for 2D finite element analysis on soil consolidation andrnstress-strain analysis. The Duncan-Chang nonlinear constitutive modelrnwas employed to describe the stress and strain relationship of the soils.rnThe safety factor calculated by the strength reduction method wasrnverified by traditional limit equilibrium slice Bishop Method.
