This paper seeks to explore the orle of participation in Is methodologies and the relationship of the output of this process to the realisation of the design through the IS professional's individual design activity. It goes on to esplore how recent studies of designer behaviour may suggest strategies for more effective use of the design artifact in participatively-based IS development.
