Libya is considered as one of those countries whichrnsuffer from limited water resources availability. Aboutrn95 % of the country is desert. The average annual rainfallrnis just between 10 mm to 500 mm over the entire Libyanrnland surface. The Great Man-Made River Projectrn(GMMRP), started in 1984, transfers groundwater fromrnthe southern aquifers to the northern part at a rate of 5.7rnmillion m3/day over thousands of kilometers. Continuingrnwater consumption from the aquifer system over the lastrntwo decades has resulted in significant lowering of therngroundwater level and affecting its quality. This paper isrnfocusing on the drawdown of groundwater level due tornGreat Man-Made Project pumping at Murzuk Basin. Thernstudy is carried out using Groundwater Vistas (GV)rnsoftware, MODFLOW is the package that selected forrnwater level simulation to get the steady-state condition atrnstudy area for long-term of pumping, and MODOFC tornmake an optimization model, it is formulated in term tornminimizing the total water extract and water head asrnobjective functions.
