This work investigates experiemtnally the effect of sand dust layer on the efficinecy of photovoltaic panels. A relation has been found between photvoltaic panels efficiency and weight of sand dust particles per unit area accumulated on the glazing surface. This relation will help the designers of photovoltaic systems to predict the real eficiency of photovoltaic panels due to the effect of sand dust especially in the desert areas and dusty cities. The results from this work could improve the predictive capabilities of existing solar energy simulation models by incorporating the factor which account for sand dust accumulation on PV surfaces.
