On the anisotropy of output lasing power in electron-beam pumped CdS crystals

This paper carries a simple model to elucidate the output lasing power anisotropy effect recently observed in electron-beam-strip pumped hexagonal CdS. The model is based on the focusing phenomenon of the acoustic phonons emerging in an active crystal region during pulse of pumping. The orthogonal phonon fluxes approximation used in the simulation provides good correlation between calculated values of the degrees of the output lasing power anisotropies and experimental these in the samples investigated. The present results point to the fact that the knowledge of the phonon fluxes distributions in crystals can provide increasing of the output lasing power in different strip lasers without significant additional technological efforts.
