Subsea gate valve is one of key components in Subsea Production Systems, especially in Christmas trees and manifolds, which works a long time in the deepwater hostile environment.Because divers cannot operate the gate valve in the deepwater, the hydraulic actuator becomes an essential equipment in the development of deepwater and ultra-deepwater.This paper introduces a design method of actuator and points out some key factors in the process of design: the theoretical calculation method of valve operating forces and spring big load.Also it is considered for functions and operation feasibility, preferentially for meeting the requirements of safety and reliability.The research of underwater gate valve actuator design key points will provide thoughts and references for the future more research and development in Subsea Production System of China.
