The increasing use of composite materials for structural applications requires dedicated research efforts aimed to the definition of standard criteria and procedures for design,still missing in many important features concerning composite materials.In particular the multiaxial fatigue behaviour of composites has received only a little attention so far,and reliable design criteria,suitable to deal with complicated stress conditions,have not been yet assessed.Some of the criteria available in the literature have been compared to experimental data in,revealing the above mentioned lack of reliability.The same work highlights also the almost complete absence of quantitative information about the damage mechanics of advanced composite under multiaxial cyclic loading.
