The importance of structural reliability and safety measure in thernlifetime performance is addressed and important uncertainty origins arernbriefly outlined and categorized in the introduction. Then, the Level IIrn(approximate) time-independent component-reliability methodsrn(FORM/SORM) are summarized in a compact form. Consequently, thernLevel III (exact) reliability methods are presented with basicrnformulations. Following the component reliability methods, attention isrngiven to time -independent system reliability methods for parallel andrnseries systems in a conceptual form with essential formulations andrnboundary conditions of failure probabilities. For complex reliabilityrnproblems, techniques of the stochastic finite element method arernsummarized, among which perturbation method, Neumann expansionrnsolution, response surface method, and Branch and Bound method arernparticularly highlighted. Having explained basic principles of timedependentrnreliability methods, simplified techniques of failurernprobabilities are outlined. Attention is given particularly to therntransformation of time dependent failure modes into a correspondingrntime independent mode to facilitate the calculation procedure usingrnload combination models, of which the Turkstra's rule and FerryrnBorges-Castanheta load model are worthwhile to mention. Finally, thernoutcrossing approach, as being an exact and general expression for thernfailure probability in a time interval, is outlined for both discrete andrncontinuous processes with highlighting lower and upper bounds of arntime-interval failure-probability.
