The Airborne Submillimeter Radiometer (ASUR) is arnmicrowave receiver, which has been used for observingrnstratospheric and mesospheric constituents. ASUR hasrnalso been deployed for validating many satellite sensorsrnsince 1996. The SCIAMACHY sensor is one of the atmosphericrnchemistry payloads onboard the ENVISAT satellite.rnSCIAVALUE is the aircraft campaign performed onboardrnthe DLR Falcon in September 2002 and in February/rnMarch 2003 to validate the SCIAMACHY data products.rnThe campaign covered a latitude band from therntropics to the Arctic in two different seasons to enablernthe validation activities under different atmospheric conditions.rnOzone measurements gathered by the ASUR sensorrnduring the campaign are compared with the SCIAMACHYrnozone limb profiles. Two SCIAMACHY ozonerndatasets have been used for the validation, the ESA operationalrnproduct version 2.1 and the in-house scientificrnproduct version 1.6. Both datasets give reasonable agreementrnat all latitude sections namely, tropics, midlatitudesrnand the Arctic. The difference between ASUR and SCIAMACHYrnis about 10-15% in an altitude range of 20-50rnkm. However, this is within the estimated accuracy ofrnASUR ozone retrievals. The comparisons indicate thatrnthe SCIAMACHY retrievals might have a pointing problem.
