Approximately 3000, 000 tons spent refractories (spent refractory waste) are discard in China and large amount of unsold fired products are generated annually throughout the world. These are waste refractories and only a little part of them are reused. Remainings are mainly disposed of by landfill-ing or piling up inside or outside the factories creating environmental problems and wasting valuable natural resources. The purpose of this paper is to prepare high performance 80 alumina ceramic grinding media with extremely low wear rate by aluminosilicate refractory waste in the system of MgO - Al_2O_3 - SiO_2, CaO- Al_2O_3 - SiO_2 and CaO - MgO - Al_2O_3 - SiO_2 respectively using cold isostatic pressing and low temperature and fast sintering technology. The balls' wear rate was examined by intergrinding with ordinary high alumina ceramic grinding media in ball mill. The results showed that all the ceramic ball prepared in the three systems exhibit excellent wear resistance. Analyzed results of XRD showed that the mainly phase of the ceramic was corundum, and the secondary phase was mullite. Observed under SEM showed that the ceramic particle was microcrystalized with average diameter of about 5μm and the materials was wear off from the ceramic balls in the way of transgranular fracture.
