Agile-manufacturing-oriented Enterprise Management System and Its Application in Iron & Steel Supply Chain for Baosteel

Since advancing Agile manufacturing idea at the beginning of 1990s in previous century the agile manufacturing and its system realizing method cause great attention from every country and become fast a research highlight in mechanical manufacturing, control, computer and management sciences. With continuous deepening into global economy integration the market competition of steel products becomes severe day by day. In accordance with the feature of research and development, production, sale and service in respect of steel product constructing a high-effective and agile-manufacturing-oriented management system for suiting need of market competition just seems very important. The steel production is a mixed long-flow production model of chemical processing and physical processing and possesses a strong trade feature so that development of agile manufacturing management system in steel enterprise has its connatural difficulty and characteristic. There are four large kernel subsystems in Baosteel system, including Integrated Manufacturing Subsystem, Data Warehousing Subsystem, Quick Responding Subsystem and e-Sales Subsystem, and up to the end of 2003 has built basically the 'Customer Driven Agile Manufacturing Management System' achieving a perfect result and obvious economical benefits and wining general acceptance of customer. This paper will present a brief introduction and provides a concrete application case concerning to management concept of customer driven Baosteel Agile manufacturing management system in accordance with the characteristic of steel enterprise.
