The paper is based on the Liberation Hybrid Public Bus's Motor and Control System, a subtask of the Electric Vehicle key item of national 863 program during the 'Tenth Five-year Plan' period. The focus is on the research of Hybrid Public Bus's induction motor drive and control system applied in the city. The typical operating modes include: motor starting ICE mode, pure electric mode, pure ICE mode, hybrid mode and regenerative braking mode. The electric propulsion system adopts an AC induction motor (rated power 20 kW, maximum power 40 kW) and its Field Orientated Control system. The motor control unit (MCU) communicates with the Vehicle Control Unit (VCU) through the SAEJ1939 CAN Bus. Based on the five operating modes, the paper emphasizes the introduction motor design and control characteristic, and practical requirements.
