The intrinsic thermal decomposition kinetics of some alkaline-earth carbonates

The kinetics of decomposition of calcium,strontium and barium carbonates were investigated by thermogravimetric and differential thermal analyses during linear heating.By the nonisothermal method,the complete rate expression was determined from a relatively small number of experimental runs.Shallow beds of fine synthetic powder samples were employed to obtain the kinetic data for decomposition in the absence of heat and mass transfer effects.In some specific cases,experiments were repeated with thin flakes of pressed powder.The activation energies of the chemical reactions were evaluated from the experimental data.
