摘要

The problem of acoustic detectability of vehicles has become a significant discussion brought to the fore front by the safety concern associated with blind pedestrians and ultra-quiet electric vehicles. With pedestrian safety in mind a significant amount of research has been conducted recently regarding the detectability of both internal combustion and electric vehicles. This research has significantly improved on historical detectability models that have focused on evaluating the difference between the overall sound pressure level and the ambient sound pressure level to predict detectability. More recently the detectability discussion has included frequency based metrics (i.e. one-third octave band levels) and psychoacoustic models, such as loudness. This paper will discuss the importance of including time-varying as well as overall level and frequency based metrics in predicting the probability of detection for a gas vs diesel powered internal combustion engine vehicle.
