We have provided acoustical consulting services to our clients (architects and indirectly owners) for LEED for schools since the summer of 2007, and prior to that had helped several schools achieve the S12.60 classroom acoustics standard on which the acoustics portion of the rating system is based. Case studies over the last five years of our experiences in this process are shared. This includes projects with various starting points including model school design, early design development, early in construction documents, after construction documents are completed, and during construction. We also share our experience with the various interpretations of the requirements, exceptions we have taken, what we have successfully submitted, and areas where in our judgment the rating system requirements, submittal, and approval process is appropriate and where it needs improvement.
