Strategic noise mapping in Ireland (Phase Two): Implementation of lessons learned from the first phase

The second phase of noise mapping represents the second time large-scale noise studies willrnbe developed in accordance with the Environmental Noise Directive. After the first phase ofrnnoise mapping was completed in 2007, a number of academics and state agencies reportedrnlessons learned throughout the process and released guidance documents andrncommentaries outlining how improvements might be achieved for the second phase.rnHowever, have Member States learned from this experience? This paper investigates thernmanner in which one Member State, Ireland, is implementing the second phase of noisernmapping and investigates if the documented mistakes of the first phase are beingrnaddressed. It is reported that a number of positive steps have been taken in Ireland butrnthere are still a number of outstanding issues in need of further consideration; in generalrnthe process has been improved but significant scope for improvement remains.
