It pays to share the boss's vision. What does one really expect from one's job -salary, security or career development? Recent studies suggest that what really motivates people is sharing the boss's vision. Companies should not just tell the staff about their ultimate goals but involve them at every step. It not only improves the atmosphere but also boosts profits. Things are changing at a rapid pace. Global has become the buzzword for any venture or establishment. Companies need to adapt new technologies and strategies, like Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP), E-commerce, and knowledge management to stay competent in the global market. The saying goes that if you are doing today what you did yesterday, you will be out of the market tomorrow. Attitudes have to be changed and new strategies have to be adapted. Despite all these changes, there are primary factors needed to stay competitive. Improving productivity and delivering quality service are the key factors in the minds of companies putting their feet in the turbulent global market. What will global managers have to do to be successful in the 21st Century, more importantly, what do global managers have to do today to make sure that they and their organization will still be around in the 21st Century? What technologies and strategies need to be adopted? How important is it to share one's vision? The present paper addresses all this and much more. Some key characteristics are discussed which, when developed appropriately, would help a global enterprise to be successful in a world of cut throat competition.
