A Study of Imaging Space Occupying Lesion Using High-Speed Digital Subtraction Echography

We have already reported that High-speed digital subtraction echograpy (Hs-DSE) system was useful to detect and visualize the motion of human internal organs. Using this Hs-DSE method under foced vibration, we studied if we can image more sensitively the lesion which is difficult to be detected by conventional B-mode echogram. We make a phantom of a hydrophilic cellulose block, scooping a hole of 3 cm in diameter, filling the holl with sol mixed with gel and water to match acoustic impedance of surroundings. Vibrating this phantom by audio-oscillator, we try to detect the sol lesion applying the Hs-DSE method. There are no significant differences between B-mode images of sol lesion with and without forced vibration, but using Hs-DSE under forced vibration, scattered color signals are imaged, and we can distinctively detect the sol lesion. We therefore conclude that this system is useful for discriminating the lesions of samernacoustic impedance.
