摘要

The main objective of this paper is to review the techniques of parametric design from the architectural and structural shape point of view. The parametric design techniques are the sum of methods that solve architectural design tasks with the help of mathematical models in such a way that during this architectural design task the designer tries to find an optimal solution by varying a subset of parameters. These techniques provide new ways to create structural shapes. There are a wide variety of parametric design techniques and they are discussed or summarised in the literature, however a comprehensive classification of them does not exist. This is the reason why a review of them is difficult. A further aim of this paper is to create a new classification scheme that can help to better understand the parametric design techniques and make them more transparent for other architects and engineers. The classification is based on shape and logical aspects, where mathematically similar structures are in the same classes. The topic has been approached mainly from an architectural point of view, however the classification system can be applied to other fields.
