Deep foundations in the form of piles are integral part of offshorernstructures which are subjected to significant lateral loads. Lateral load tests were performed on precast reinforced concrete piles made with pulverized coal combustion products. The tests were performed as a part of a comprehensive pile testing program initiated to determine if the coal combustion products (CCPs) from burning of pulverized coalrncan be used to construct precast concrete pile foundations withoutrnjeopardizing their structural capacity. A total of three piles were tested. One pile was constructed using conventional concrete and two piles were constructed using concrete composites having different amounts of pulverized coal combustion (PCC) bottom ash. All the piles had 12×12 inch square cross-section and were driven to refusal. Lateral loadrnwas applied by using a test pile as a reaction pile or another reactionrnpiles which was not instrumented. The piles were installed and tested atrna site located in the Carterville campus of Southern Illinois UniversityrnCarbondale. The results obtained show that the lateral load-deflectionrnresponse of the piles constructed using PCC fly ash and bottom ash wasrnsimilar to that of piles constructed using conventional concrete. Thernpaper provides selected information and results from the laboratoryrntests and results from full-scale lateral pile load tests.
