The value of satellite derived land products for sciencernapplications and research is dependent upon the knownrnaccuracy of the data. CEOS (Committee on EarthrnObservation Satellites), the space arm of the Group onrnEarth Observations (GEO), plays a key role inrncoordinating the land product validation process. ThernLand Product Validation (LPV) sub-group of the CEOSrnWorking Group on Calibration and Validation (WGCV)rnaims to address the challenges associated with thernvalidation of global land products. This paper providesrnan overview of LPV sub-group focus area activities,rnwhich cover seven terrestrial Essential ClimaternVariables (ECVs). The contribution will enhancerncoordination of the scientific needs of the Earth systemrncommunities with global LPV activities.
