In parallel to vegetation mapping exemplified byrnVEGETATION and spectral thematic instruments asrnMERIS, other important natural and man-madernphenomena characterize the equatorial and low latitudernregions region covered especially well by thernInternational Space Station orbit. The agreementrnbetween the space agencies evolves now to a lifetime ofrnthe ISS up to 2025. Two themes can be proposed:rnhydrography and biomass burning.rnHydrography has an extreme human importance asrnhuman life and agriculture depend on water, transport asrnwell; also the hydroelectric energy which could bernharnessed from the hydrological network is tremendousrnand would allow a sustainable development of the entirernregion. Biomass burning is also a major issue, both duernto its direct agricultural management aspects and also tornits influence on global pollution.
