In the frame of European Space Agencies programmes,rnAstrium Space Transportation is responsible of therndevelopment and the qualification of the Ariane 5rnlauncher system, and in particular of the flight softwarerndevelopment and validation. From the beginning of thernAriane 5 programme, in the early 1990s, the flightrnsoftware has evolved due to the improvements made onrnthe launcher and to the different launchers versions (GS,rnECA, ES/ATV). Anyway it has always been executedrnon the same on-board computer. As this computer wasrnbecoming obsolete, its renewal was decided in 2007.rnThis article presents the test strategy of the flightrnsoftware ported on the new computer, and the lessonsrnlearned from the tests campaigns. In the frame of thernsoftware developments and of the software production,rnit focuses on the functional validation tests strategy andrnon the newly developed automated validation tools,rnpresenting the related optimisations and gains.
