Herbackeous mimosa (mimosa strigillosa torr. And gray), a newly released reclamation species

After 15 years of initial obseverations and advanced evaluation, herbaceous mimosa (Mimosa strigillosa) was released in 1998 by NRCS's East Texas Plant materials Center. The plant is a native, perennial warm aseason legume found throughout the SE United States, mexico, Paraguay, and Argentina. It grows on a variety of soil types and surface drainage conditions. Although enjoying optimum growth on mosit sites with pH reange of 6.2-7.1, it tolerates soils with pH as low as 4.7 and soil mositure stress as high as 1500 kpa. Potential applications of the plant are revegatation and eroson control for disturbed lands, gullies, parks, road cuts, construction sites, streambanks, and mined areas.
