LED STREET LIGHTS FOR A MEDIUM-SIZE TOWN IN GERMANY - ENERGY SAVING POTENTIAL, LIGHTING QUALITY AND USER ACCEPTANCE

An installation of LED street lights inrnGermany is investigated. Owing to thernnumber of LED luminaires, this is a projectrnfar beyond the characteristics of a “testrninstallation”. A number of about 450 LEDrnstreet lights will be installed in a mediumsizerntown [1] with more than 60000 citizensrnin Germany until May 2010. A total numberrnof about 3450 luminaires are planned to berninstalled until the end of 2011. The wholernproject is observed by scientific staff as arnbefore-after study to evaluate long termrnbehaviour of LED street lights andrnacceptance of this technology by road users.rnThe results in aspects of energy savingrnpotential, lighting quality issues and thernacceptance of road users are presented.
