The typical Korean residential buildings, especiallyrnapartment buildings, are furnished with ONDOL –rnthe Korean traditional radiant floor heating system.rnThe buildings are getting more insulated and airrntight for heating in hard winter. ONDOL floors andrnwalls are heavy enough to take up large thermalrncapacities for the better efficiency of the heatingrnsystem.rnThe developed computer simulation program couldrnwell predict that the heat- equivalent to 5 continuousrnhours of hot water supply - is intermittently suppliedrneven on the coldest day in Seoul, Korea. Since heatrnsupply to the buildings with large thermal capacity isrnintermittent, one space can be heated, while thernother cools down slowly with previously stored heat.rnThis concept of heating is proposed as 'The Time-rnDivision Hot-Water Supply Heating System'.rnTo verify the applicability of the proposed heatingrnsystem, computer simulation was performed on twornidentical Ondol rooms. The results showed that thernrequired heating time of each rooms was the both 5rnhours, and could maintain room air temperaturesrneven better.
