There is increasing interest in Europe in the use ofrndisplacement ventilation and chilled ceiling coolingrnsystems. A modelling methodology is presented herernthat deals with the significantly different heat transferrncharacteristics of these systems compared withrnconventional all-air systems. The purpose of the workrnis to develop a room model that is computationallyrnefficient enough for annual hourly simulation purposesrnand a nodal model has been developed that isrnintermediate in complexity between a single air nodernmodel and a CFD model. Results of steady staterncomparisons of the model predictions -and testrnchamber measurements are presented. A coolingrnsystem employing indirect evaporative cooling andrndisplacement ventilation has been simulated using thernmodel, and is included as an example of the simulationrnmethodology. The model can also be extended to treatrnsystems with chilled ceiling panels.
