AN EDUCATIONAL DESIGN FOR COURSEWARE RELATING TO HEATING LOAD CALCULATIONS IN BUILDINGS

Courseware is educational software, designed to create anrninstructional environment, for the purpose of facilitating learning.rnCourseware is being developed to support training in a wide rangernof engineering disciplines, including Heating Ventilating and AirrnConditioning (HVAC) design. It is anticipated that coursewarernwill be used much more, to support current training practices inrnHVAC design, in order to make training more effective, efficient,rnand accessible. Current practices in courseware design indicaternvery few courseware products are designed using formal methods.rnThis has led to courseware, that in many ways, fails to addressrnlearner's needs. If courseware is to be effective, in supportingrntraining in HVAC design, then courseware must be developedrnusing formal methods.rnIn this paper, a formal courseware design model isrndescribed. An Educational Design (ED) is carried out, forrncourseware relating to heating load calculations in buildings,rnresulting in a detailed conceptual description of how therncourseware appears to the user. Sixteen screens are shown,rndepicting how the courseware guides the user, in learning how tornperform heating load calculations in buildings.
