Digital communications are all around today's work environment including cell phones, computers, CD's, DVD's, MP3/4 players, LCD/Plasma HDTV's and yes even in control and analyser systems. The one thing that makes all these technologies possible is the widespread adoption of open standards. Why then are analyser systems not more interoperable?rnThe NeSSI (New Sample System Initiative) group adopted Foundation Fieldbus HI as their digital communications protocol in February 2004, yet little progress has been made in products being available. Part of the reason is the need to communicate over an open Ethernet standard between the NeSSI controllers (S.A.M.) Sensor Actuator Manager, the analyser, and the shelter/plant control systems.rnSince digital communications extend the network, and hence the control system down to the sensors themselves, an integrated solution is required.rnThis presentation will share how this integrated solution is now possible, what remaining hurdles to widespread adoption remain to be overcome, and what is being done to overcome these same hurdles.
