The technology of Nuclear Magnetic Resonance [NMRA] has been used in laboratories for decades but for many reasons has not been put on line in the process industries. Key technology, protected by patents, and with a number of distinct advantages has now allowed for this technology to be put on line. In this paper, we will discuss the benefits derived from the technology which include:rn1. Model Robustness: most models do not need to be updated for years due to the linear robustness of the models.rn2. High availability: based on 24 hours per day 365 days per year operationsrn3. Wide range of feeds: from dirty crudes to heavy Fluidized Catalytic Cracker feeds to diesel & Gasoline mixed with water.rnThe pitfalls in applying the technology to the process and some of the evolution that the product in the area of sample conditioning has experienced will also be discussed. This paper will discuss some basic principals of the technology and will be focused on the results from field installations, the pitfalls encountered and a methodology which was developed to eliminate the pitfalls.
