PITFALLS OF ANALYZER INSTALLATIONS

To a project instrument engineer one of the most dreaded words one can hear is “Analyzer”. This wordrnbrings memories of a bad outcome on a previous project, for many. Somewhere a schedule was blown,rncosts were overrun, results were less than expected, someone displayed a great deal of displeasure at thernend result, or the engineer just wound up looking bad. It is desirable that someone with analyzerrnexperience would do all the analyzer installations and the good stuff would be left for the instrumentrnpeople. Most often the problems stem from lack of experience, lack of time, and lack of time to getrnexperience. Time is money and most managers want to limit the up-front hours in the estimate to keeprnthe cost down. This paper attempts to outline the steps necessary to have a successful analyzerrninstallation, identify the pitfalls, and to justify the front-end time needed to complete the projectrncorrectly.
