Behavioral effects of EGb761 under stressfull ocnditions

A quite recent and extensive literature indicates that glucocorticoids,the adrenal steoids hormones secreted under stress cna have a broad range of deleterious effects on the brain (Sapolsky,1996a).Their effects occur predominantly,but not exclusively,in the hippocampus,a structure rich in sensitive glucocorticoid receptors.Recent paper shave shown that repeated stress or adminsistation of stress level of glucocoritioids can reversibly decrease the number of apical dendritic branch points and hte lenght of apical dendrites in the CA3 layer of the hippocampus.This atrophy is sufficient to impair hippocampal dependant cognition.
