Simulation on the Effects of Wheel Structure Parameters on Mechanical Behavior of Lunar Soil by Distinct Element Method

The mechanical model between lunar soil particles by Distinct Element Method (DEM) and the DEM parameters of lunar soil simulant were given. The simulation system between lugged rover wheel and lunar soil by DEM was established and validated. The effects of the structure parameters of lugged wheel on mechanical behaviors of lunar soil were simulated and analyzed. The disturbed magnitude of lunar soil under the wheel with large wheel diameter is more than that under the wheel with small wheel diameter. The destroying capability of the wheel with large lug height is stronger than that one with small lug height. The impact and the traction of the wheel with large lug width are lower than that one with small lug width. The disturbed magnitude and the flying height of lunar soil under the wheel with large lug number are less than those under the wheel with small lug number.
