Al2O3-Cr2O3 refractory (Cr2O3, 10%wt) samples with adding 10wt% fused mullite-zirconia particles were prepared.As a comparison, samples with adding 3% wt.of m-ZrO2 and samples without addition were prepared.respectively.Those samples were investigated by water cold thermal shock test (11 00 ℃)and simulating open paring thermal shock test (1600 ℃) to research the impact of fused mullite-zirconia added on thermal shock resistance of Al2O3-Cr2O3 refractories.The results indicate that mullite-zirconia particles can significantly improve the thermal shock resistance of Al2O3-Cr2O3 refractories.The improvement effect of the thermal shock resistance by introducing mullite-zirconia particles is quite as introducing m-ZrO2.During sintering, glassy phase in mullite-zirconia particles melt and infiltrate into matrix, which causes the surrounding matrix and mullite-zirconia particles to combine closely.Mullite-zirconia particles in Al2O3-Cr2O3 refractory have an effect of buffer and absorption to thermal shock cracks, due to its eutectic and cracks structure.
