Refractory containing Cr2O3 is the traditional refractory material for lining of alkali recovery furnace,but when it is manufactured and used, hexavalent chrome compounds will give rise to detrimental effect on environment and human's health.With the gradual awakening of the people "s consciousness about environment protection, to prepare one kind of bricks for alkali recovery furnace which are environmental, high quality and long life is urgent affair.In this paper, the alumina-rich MgAl2O4 spinel (AR90) is used to replace the chromite.The physical properties are studied after heating at 110 ℃ for 24h and 1300 ℃ for 3h between AR90 and chrome.Alkali vapor method is used to detect the alkali-resistant properties of the two materials.The results show that: (1) Samples with chromite show lower volume expansion, apparent porosity and higher volume density.But the gap is not big.Samples with AR90 show higher compressive strength, After sintered at 1300℃ for 3h, volume shrinkage of chromite is significantly greater than that of spinel.Apparent porosity is significantly lower than that in spinel.Bulk density and compression strength are greater than AR90.But the overall difference between the two is very small.In a word, the physical properties of AR90 can be comparable to chromite.(2) No matter being eroded by alkali or sintered at 1300 ℃, AR90 performance smaller rate of change of intensity and larger compression strength than samples with chromite.At the same time,the permeability of alkali salt in samples with chromite is more serious than that of AR90.This indicates that the AR90 has better alkali resistance than the chromite.
