A Test campaign in the frame of the ASI (Italian SpacernAgency) funded project CAST (AdvancedrnAerothermodynamic Configurations for SpacernTransport) was performed at the CIRA GHIBLI plasmarnwind tunnel. The CAST Test campaign in GHIBLIrnconsisted of more than 20 test cases including Probernmeasurements, microwave absorption measurementsrnand a MHD experiment. The microwave absorptionrnmeasurements were performed in plasma free jetrnconditions in order to determine the integral electronrnnumber density of the plasma flow. A correlationrnbetween the measured electron number density and thernfacility operating conditions was found.rnThe MHD experiment was performed by insertion in thernhypersonic plasma jet of a ceramic flat faced blunt conernmodel containing a permanent magnet inside, able torngenerate a magnetic field of 0.5 Tesla; also anotherrnmodel identical to the previous but not containing anyrnmagnet inside, was inserted in the hypersonic plasma jetrnat the same flow conditions. The effects of suchrninteractions were compared.
