Corrosion Protection for Hydraulic Pressure Lines Fighting Rust without Chromium-VI

Precision steel tubes are used as pressure lines in various applications, from fluid transport to construction and earth-moving equipment. As such, they are exposed to environmental influences and effects, especially corrosion. Rust affects the material in a way that it diminishes the effective wall thickness, thus lowering the functionality up to the point of failure of the respective component before the end of its estimated lifetime. This paper shows some of the most common options to prevent pressure lines from corroding, starting with the basic technology of corrosion protection and testing to several currently used protection systems. A special aspect is the avoidance of toxic or even carcinogenic substances like Chromium-VI.
