Operation of Lifting Vehicles for Unloading and Loading Containers

Ship operation,which consists of the unloading operation from the ship to the yard and loading operationfrom the yard to the ship,plays an important role in container terminals. This study investigates the effects ofthe layout of container terminal and the type of internal vehicles on the performance of the ship operation. Twodifferent layouts are those with and without buffer spaces in the apron and the yard. Two different types ofvehicles are lifting vehicles and yard trucks. Simulation models are conducted with the changes in the buffercapacity and the number of vehicles. To evaluate the performances,the total delay time of quay cranes and thetotal travel time of vehicles are used as the performance measures. The simulation study is conducted tocompare the performances of different systems.
