Chlorinated Hydrocarbons (CHs),BTEX are usually observed in oil industry .Here the distribution of them in shallow groundw-ater of Yangtze River Deha,easternChina,was investigated.A total of 389 groundwater samples were collected from domestic wells in 3years.8organic compounds were analyzed by HPLC.Tetrachloroethylene (PCE) was detected in about half of all the samples (42. 6%),foUowed by carbon letrachloridle (CT),trichloromethane (TCM) and trichloroethylene (TCE).BTEX were detected in approximate 20% of the samples analyzed.Except for benzene and PCE.the other 6 compounds concentrations were all lower than those corresponding standards set by Chinese Environmental Protection Agency for drinking water.The maximum concentrations of benzene and PCE were 10.05μg/L and 1034μg/L,both of which were over two times of current drinking water standards (5.0μg/L).The detected results of samples collected on high-water season and low-water season were great different.lt also showed the wells near industries have more organic compounds and heavier pollution.Distribution of concerned compounds was related to land use style and oil use.The lighter pollution of shallow groundwater in study area may partly because of the higher anti-pollution capacity of unsaturated zone.
