Seven countries are cooperating with the objectives (i) to document the status of the experimental data base and of the predictive methods for Gas-Cooled Reactor fuel performance and fission product behaviour; (ii) to verify and validate methods in fuel performance and fission product retention prediction. These countries are China, France, Germany, Japan, Russia, USA and the UK. Duration of the programme is 1993-96.rnThe technology areas addressed in this IAEA Coordinated Research Programme are:rn1. Fuel design and manufacturern2. Normal operation fuel performance and fission product behaviourrn3. Accident condition fuel performance and fission product behaviourrn3.1 core heatuprn3.2 fast transientsrn3.3 oxidising conditions (water and air ingress)rn4. Plateout, re-entrainment of plateout, fission product behaviour in the reactor buildingrn5. Performance of advanced fuelsrnWork performed so far has generated a 300-page draft document with important information for normal operations (Germany, Japan, China, Russia) and accident conditions (USA, Japan, Germany, Russia) and, additionally, a special chapter on advanced fuels (Japan).rnHighlights from this work will be presented during the Symposium.
